description
The Monument from the East. Standing at the end of Monument Street, by Lower Thames Street, George Davison Reid set up his custom-built apparatus to take this photo. Many fruit merchants and fish salesman traded from Monument Street, which was close to the riverside wharfs where produce arrived. The great Billingsgate fish market was on Lower Thames Street.
