This poster, produced during World War II was one in a series commissioned by the government to ensure that no-one passed on information, however innocently, that could be of use to the enemy. The slogan 'Careless Talk Costs Lives' that appears on all the posters was first adopted by the Ministry of Information in 1940 and promoted the powerful message that 'nobody could be trusted'. This poster showing a young soldier talking to his girlfriend carries the powerful warning 'Tell Nobody - not even Her'. Targeted specifically at the armed forces it would have been posted up in mess rooms and other army buildings.
