description
A View in Smithfield on a Friday afternoon. A coloured etching and aquatint depicting horse trading at Smithfield Market. No painting of the subject has been traced but is possibly by the Swiss artist Jacques-Laurent Agasse. The original was probably painted from south side of west Smithfield - looking north to Smithfield Bar and St John Street. C. Lewis aquatinted the view but for forms sake the name of his father F.C. also appeared on the plate. The print was published by J. Moore of West St., Upper St. Martin's Lane.
