They included specimens of ores and precious metals, minerals, stones, timber, fur and agricultural produce. Manufactured goods included sleighs and a powerful fire engine, which were shown alongside a native canoe. The inclusion of objects made by Indians startled some commentators, who thought of them as 'savages'.
