description
East London Afro-Caribbean child and mother in playground. The years between 1948 and 1962 saw the migration to Britain of several thousand Caribbean people. They were attracted by jobs in the health service, transport and catering industries. Most of them were men who were not joined by their wives and families until they had established themselves. So a Caribbean mother and child in London would have been a relatively unusual sight at this date.
