An image of the Monkey House in the Zoological Gardens, Regent's Park, from 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. A guide to the Zoo of 1873 notes that the original monkey house had been "found very ill-adapted for the group of animals to which it had been long devoted, both from its confined space and bad ventilation... The present Monkey-house, which was completed in July, 1864, has been fitted up in the style of a conservatory, so as to be as light and sunny as possible, and to reproduce as nearly as may be the circumstances under which its occupants live in their native haunts."
